On September 29, 2001 members of the Texas State FOP met with 17 United States Customs and Immigration personnel in El Paso, Texas and chartered Lodge #82. The new charter members and officers were sworn in and Lodge #82 was established. The Fraternal Order of Police filled a representational need and became a mechanism for federal officers to promote spirit de corps amongst their ranks.
This was the first federal lodge chartered in this area and currently is the only federal FOP lodge in West Texas-New Mexico.
